Sand casting is the oldest metal processing technique in the world. This production technique requires a casting mould, made by special casting sand (resin or furan), from which positive mould a negative is being shaped. Afterwards the metal is poured into the sand mould. When the metal solidified, the casted part can be taken out of the mould, which will lead to an indispensable destruction of it.
Nowadays Sand Casting is typically used for products with rougher tolerances in small quantities; but it can also be used in automated processes with large quantities. Examples can be found in decorative or high-tech markets, mostly with complicated CNC machining for the finalization.
